New year celebrations are undoubtedly a time for sharing with family and friends, yet many of us take these reunions
for granted and sometimes even feel that we’re merely performing a ‘duty’. Spare a thought for elderly folk and
orphans who are often overlooked by society.

To bring some cheer to the senior citizens at Penang’s Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged, Pacific West in collaboration
with Penang Passion and the Penang Chef Association held a Lo Sang (yee sang tossing) event on the
20 February 2010. To jazz things up, the innovative chefs added Pacific West seafood products - Tempura
Prawns and Tempura Fish Fillets – to the yee sang.

The Tempura Prawns and Tempura Fish Fillets definitely went down a treat and one participant even mentioned that
the extra ingredients turned the yee sang into a substantial lunch!

The following week, the Pacific West team together with Penang Passion headed out to the Seri Cahaya Home in
Batu Maung to share some yee sang as well as delicious Island Way sorbets. The kids definitely found the whole
Lo Sang experience fascinating and were full of questions about Chinese New Year traditions. Unsurprisingly, the
real highlight of the afternoon was the iced cool sorbets – the perfect refreshing end to a hot, busy day!
